Veeam to backup server from different domain
Hi, I am trying to add a Hyper-v cluster that is on different domain. From V&B server I can successfully ping the hosts & servers on the different domain.
When trying to add the server on Veeam Backup, it lists all the hyper-v hosts, however it fails with the error "Failed to resolve host name HOST-01 No such host is known"
Can we not force the Veeam to use the fqdn instead of the netbios name ?
Any help on this will be much appreciated, thank you.

You should be able to edit the hosts file in windows to direct it to the correct IP and the console should pick it up.

Having the same trouble when adding failover cluster SMB share. https://i.imgur.com/ich2tqa.png
So, simply if VBR server is in different domain then you have to populate hosts file with new record each time and stop using DNS?
I don't even know where to start explaining why this is super bad workaround.
Does VBR officially support backups from different domain?
If yes, then how to correctly configure backup is such case?

Re: Veeam to backup server from different domain
Hi Alexey, NetBIOS name resolution is mandatory for Hyper-V, since WMI works with NetBIOS names. Backup of hosts located in different domain is supported provided you can workaround the resolution issue (e.g. with the help of hosts file).

Re: Veeam to backup server from different domain
I backup Stand-alone Hyper-v in different domains without editing host-file.
i only use FQDN
But With Cluster it return only shortname of its members.

Re: Veeam to backup server from different domain
You could also add the DNS domain of the the other domain as a secondary search suffix. That's how I've gotten around this in the past. As long as you don't have hostname overlaps it works fine
