Veeam training course prerequiste for VMCE exam

Is an official Veeam training prerequisite in order to be allowed to take the VMCE exam
(Veeam Certified Engineer) at PearsonVue?

You may refer to this page in order to get more information about VMCE certification. According to VMCE Course Description:

Students should be experienced professionals with solid knowledge of servers, storage,
networking and virtualization.
To prepare for the class, the Partner should complete the Veeam Sales Professional (VMSP) and Veeam
Technical Sales Professional (VMTSP) certifications within the ProPartner website and customers should
complete the free online training on www.veeam.com.

Correct, attending the course is a requirement before sitting the exam at Pearson VUE.

Ok I understand... but I don't think it's fair to ask such high prices for online courses during the times of Corona since those are anyway only online courses and
because there exists other established online offers.

I just googled for "veeam vmce discount" and it looks like there's the Corona promo at this time
