Veeam upgrade from old version
Hi,
I'm running Veeam 9.5 update 4 community edition. I hadn't realised it was so far behind & I'm now in the process of trying to update it the 12 release. I understand that I need to use an interim 11 release to do this, but when I attempted to download it I was asked for a non public email address, I added one, but it used an old domain name that I no longer have access to so I can't verify the address that I entered. I've checked my profile & there's no way to update the email address.
The page that appears (veeam.com/upgrade.html) says verify your email address to get access to this page.
Unfortunately I can't log a support case as I need to be logged in to do it.

Re: Veeam upgrade from old version
Hi Craig
Welcome to the forum.
You need to follow the upgrade path. I would update to V10a (or to V11a if you are on 9.5 Update 4b) and then to v12.1.
- ISO for V10a --> https://www.veeam.com/kb4291
- ISO for V12.1 --> https://www.veeam.com/kb4510
I cannot help you with the login issues. A business mail address is required to download those ISO files.
As a workaround if you don't have another business mail address, you can download the V12.1 community edition from here:
https://www.veeam.com/products/free/bac ... =downloads
1) remove/uninstall your old Veeam Backup & Replication installation
2) Install Veeam Backup & Replication v12.1
3) Configure proxies and repositories
4) Make sure that the old backup files are stored on the new repository path
5) Rescan the repository
6) Create backup jobs and map to the existing backup files.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Veeam upgrade from old version
Thank you. I can't download the older ISO's as it needs my email.
I do have a business email that I can add, but as I entered one that I don't have access to, I can't verify it & there doesn't seem to be a way to change it.
If it comes to it I'll remove / uninstall, but would really like to upgrade as I'm worried about loosing my backups / config.

Uninstalling an old VBR version will not remove backup files.
You would only loose your configuration. Never your backup files.
Backup Files can always be imported to a backup server with the same or newer server version.
Just don't forget your encryption password in case you have configured backup file encryption.

Re: Veeam upgrade from old version
I just had to do the same on a very old Veeam 9.5 NOT at update 4b for a remote branch of a customer...
We opted for the path -> 9.5 Update4b -> 11 -> 12.1
If you'll be able to download the Update4b upgrade beware of a potential blocking error (that remote server doesn't have Inet access): Failed to get the full path to the update package
After many try and mumbling we solved removing a old root certificate soon-to-expire (on 2025): Microsoft Code Verification Root. If you'll get the above error, save yourself a lot of time: export it for security and then delete it!!

Re: Veeam upgrade from old version
Whenever you're dealing with a small deployment of some really old Veeam version, then a clean install is always much better than upgrading. This way you do not carry over years of configuration database inconsistencies which may cause various support issues down the road. And you can still import and restore from your old backups, until you no longer need them.

Re: Veeam upgrade from old version
Ok, but will be preserved the GFS chain to an external repository and a 3rd copy chain to an external USB disk? ...with its natural expiring and purging?
Or all the jobs will start from scratch? ...because, often, these small remote office do not have enough space to keep both the "previous" repo history and a new one...
Thanks!
