Veeam v12 postgresql questions

Post by joshima »

Hello,

regarding postgresql for veeam I have a few questions as follows:

- Local-Binding possible?
- possibly an extra admin user (if that's not the "postgres" anyway)?
- Auto vacuum or schedule it manually?
- Should I refrain from using special names (spaces, etc.) during the installation because of scripting and working with escapes?
- Should that also be two instances (as with SQL Express) or one instance with two DBs?
- Is postgresql automatic updated by veeam or is it a manual task (patchmanagement)?

thank you

Hello Joshima
- Local-Binding possible?
Are you asking about only allowing localhost to connect to PostgreSQL?
- possibly an extra admin user (if that's not the "postgres" anyway)?
Yes. You can create additional admin users if you like.
- Auto vacuum or schedule it manually?
It is disabled on an newly installed Veeam Backup & Replication server. I suggest you run the database with the default settings. Let me check internally if we can recommend and support it.
- Should I refrain from using special names (spaces, etc.) during the installation because of scripting and working with escapes?
It's recommended to not use special characters when working with software.
- Should that also be two instances (as with SQL Express) or one instance with two DBs?
Two instances for which products? Enterprise manager and Veeam backup & Replication?
- Is postgresql automatic updated by veeam or is it a manual task (patchmanagement)?
As for MSSQL, it's a manual task.

Hi Joshima

Still checking on the questions about special chars and autovacuum.
Yes Enterprise manager and Veeam backup & Replication
You can use the same instance.
Yes only allowing localhost.
Default configuration with the PostgreSQL server installed by Veeam is to only allow local host connection.
You can configure allowed connections in the ph_bha.conf file.

Hello Joshima
special chars
Special chars are supported as long they are supported by PostgreSQL.
But we still recommend to not use it.
autovacuum
I checked again. While it is not set up in the config file, autovacuum is already enabled by default.
No need to enable it.
