Version differences between EM and VBR
In order to address KB4581 vulnerability, we're considering upgrading only EM without VBR.
Although I aware that there is no problem as long as the EM version is higher, I am concerned about the impact on our customers if we operate with different versions of EM and VBR.
Is it possible that something unexpected may occur if the versions of EM and VBR are different?
EM : 12.0.0.1420 P20230223 / VBR : 12.0.0.1420 P20230223
↓
EM : 12.1.2.172 / VBR : 12.0.0.1420 P20230223
It is planned to be.
Best Regards,

Re: Version differences between EM and VBR
Hello miyu

We tested this scenario and do not expect any issues. EM V12.1 can manage backup servers from v10a and later.
The kb especially mentions as one option that "you can only update Enterprise Manager if you use a dedicated server".

If you still would face issues, then please open a support case.Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager supports adding backup servers with Veeam Backup & Replication 10a or later.

Re: Version differences between EM and VBR
Thanks for the reply!
I posted this because I thought it would be nice to have some examples.
We consider upgrading only EM.

Re: Version differences between EM and VBR
Any reason to keep VBR on 12.0? This build is over 1 year old and it has many outdated, vulnerable 3rd party components.

This is because we want to address vulnerability as soon as possible.
VBR will be upgraded after EM is finished.

Re: Version differences between EM and VBR
This is slightly misleading. EM v12.1 can manage MOST aspects of backup servers from v10a and later. What it can't do is create new jobs or manage existing jobs. The option to create/modify jobs is greyed out and gives a tool tip that VBR needs to be upgraded. This forced us to perform an emergency upgrade of our VBRs from v11a to 12.1 (and had the added benefit of introducing other issues into our environment).
