Very high Disk I\O on veeam b&r server after upgrade

looking back over the past few months data, it looks like after upgrading from veeam B&R 6.5 patch 3 to Veeam 7.0 patch set 2 the Disk IO on the system itself has been through the roof, averaging over 1,000 IOPs and has been placing quite the strain on my SAN. When I rdp in, SQL server is the cause of most of the disk I\O.

Is this normal or something that I should open a support case about? I

I suggest opening a support case.

I have upgraded many client's installation to V7R2, and never encountered this.

I would suggest installing Patch #3 before contacting support, as it reduces the load on SQL server significantly.

I installed the latest update and will post back once I find out if it fixed things. On 6.5 patch 3, the daily average throughput was around 25KBps. Starting November 20th, the day it was upgraded to 7.0 the daily average has been around 7769KBps.

Hopefully this resolves the high disk I\O which has really been placing a high load on my SAN!

The patchset did resolve the issue! average KBps has returned to around 25KBps. Whatever veeam fixed, I am glad they did it!

I have the same issue on Hyper-V host (windows 2012 NOT R2) Veeam B&R 6.5
Installation of patch 3 did not resolve the issue. Very high I/O load on veeam SQL mdf database file when running one of the replication jobs

Hmm.. wait, are you on v6.5 or v7? This was supposed to be improved in v7 Patch 3, not v6.5 Patch 3.

Yes, we are running v6.5 patch 3 not v7
Do I need to upgrade our veeam infrastructure to v7 patch 3?

Yes, I would recommend to do so and check whether the issue still persists. Don't forget to backup up Veeam B&R configuration first, just to be on the safe side.
