Virtual Lab Networking

I have gotten my virtual lab/Proxy appliance working in version 7 and have tested surebackup. The VM's come up fine with one exception, the network card does not make a connection to the virtual lab network. It comes up with the same IP address and same network card as planned but no network connection. I have a simple app grou with just 2 VM's on it and after both are up and running they are not able to see each other.

Any thoughts?

Aaron, what network settings have you specified while creating this virtual lab?

I used the advanced single-host configuration. I have the Allow Proxy appliance to act as internet proxy checked off. I setup the isolated networks with the production side and the isolated network side. I set the appliance IP as the gateway and for the masquerade IP I used the default. going through vNIC1. I did not setup any static mapping.

Are the VMs connected to the network in their properties in vSphere client (Edit Settings > Network adapter properties)?

They show the network as being attached and connected to the Virtual Lab VM Network

Just to make sure I got it right, your network card is connected to the virtual lab, and VM's NIC is assigned the correct IP address, but still no network connection can be made? Do both VMs have the same issue? Can you ping the appliance gateway?

Looks like it might be something with the cloned VM itself. I can add a new network card and the server will work just fine.

Did you restore this VM twice in the virtual lab? Not sure I understand what does "cloned VM" means in terms of SureBackup job...

ok I am getting closer. I can ping each machine now and I am able to ping the gateway. I can't get passed the gateway/proxy appliance.

Aaron, virtual lab is created to isolate your VMs from the production network, that is why you cannot reach production VMs from the lab, but your production VMs can access VMs in the virtual lab via their masquerade IP addresses.

Think I may have added too much information. I am able to do everything I need now except get to the internet. It might be a dns issue but not totally sure right now I am still doing some testing.

Have you enabled the Allow proxy appliance to act as internet proxy for virtual machines in this lab check box while creating virtual lab?

I have that box checked off with the default http port of 8080 used. I left the proxy field blank

If you want to allow access to the Internet for VMs in the virtual lab, you need to enable this check box.

It is enabled there is a checkmark in the box.

Oh, sorry, I took "checked off" as "cleared". Then I suggest either trying to configure Internet access manually or contact support for assistance in reviewing whether you have configured everything right. Thanks.

Aaron, have you specified your lab IP as an HTTP Proxy for VMs inside Virtual Lab?

HA! putting in the proxy to IE helped me get to the internet. Now to get access to some outside IP address without using IE. I am guessing I will need to add some static routes in to do that testing.
