VM Copy or Active Full Backup

Hello,

I am new to Veeam Backup & Replication and try to understand the options of the software.
We have Version 6.5 and want to have all our data of our VMs on a NAS-drive to secure it in a bank locker.
We want to run this job every sunday.

What is the better choice, VM Copy or Active Full Backup?
Is there a speed difference (better for our Backup-Window).
What is the difference anyway (for our purpose)?

Hello Achim,

The most important difference between these jobs is how data will be stored on your NAS drive. With backup jobs (active full backup) your VM data will be stored in the compressed and deduped backup file, thus you will save a lot of space on your NAS drive. As to VM Copy job, then it will copy VM files in the native format (no compression and deduplication). Moreover, please be aware that if you're using thin disks, then these disks will be converted to thick ones, as thin disks can only be stored on the VMFS volumes.
