VM migration between hosts

Post by sandroalves »

Hi,

I found out that I can do VM migration between hosts with Veeam, but I have some doubts:

1 - When I do a quick migration with the VM turned on by default, does it use vMotion transfer method?

2 - When I perform a quick migration with the VM on, will all new data entered during the process be present when it is present on the other host?

Or from the moment that the transference starts, all new data is lost until the moment it is present on the other host?

3 - When I enable the option (Force Veeam transforte usage) do I have any gains in transfer performance?

4 - Do running the procedure via Veeam have any performance gains to transfer VM between hosts instead of via vCenter?

Thank you.

Hello,

1. Did you see the explanation of the transfer modes in https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100 ?

2. yes. All data will be transferred. That's why it requires a short downtime when Veeam native method is used.

3. not really. Do you more details what kind of setup we are talking about?

4. not sure what you mean. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100 shows the data flow. VCenter is not involved in the actual data transfer. If you have all vSphere features licensed, then you can also use VMware methods. I ask myself, what the reason for quick migration is in you scenario.

Best regards,
Hannes
