We have all 8MB block size on our VMFS, and they've now all been upgraded to VMFS 5, but block size is still 8mb. When i create a new one, block size is 1mb. How much do you think backup time will shrink if i recreate all the VMFS with the new 1mb block size. I assume veeam will pull less blocks this way....
Anyone done this and compared times? Our production job takes about 5 hrs now. for 64 VM's
Thanks

Re: VMFS block size - should i recreate all VMFS?
Hi Steven,
VMFS block size does not affect anything in our product, as Veeam's block size is independent of the VMFS block size so there will be no effect on backup size. In addition to this, please remember that VMware CBT has nothing to do with VMFS block size either, so the backup files should be the same.
Thanks!
