VSS: Backup job failed

I was googling and searching forum but cannot find same example. One client has following troubles.

Error is like this: VSS: Backup job failed. Cannot notify writers about the 'BACKUP FINISH' event. A VSS critical writer has failed. Writer name: [SqlServerWriter]. Class ID: [{a65faa63-5ea8-4ebc-9dbd-a0c4db26912a}]. Instance ID: [{395eb9a3-2f60-4e26-9cbb-dd7ef53bb29e}]. Writer's state: [VSS_WS_FAILED_AT_BACKUP_COMPLETE]. Error code: [0x0].

I'm assuming it might be OK since error code is 0, or we should dig further?

Server with VSS writer error was restarted yesterday but it didn't helped.

What do you see in 'vssadmin list writers' output?

for all of them, also for SqlServerWriter, the one that produce warning

Did you check the Windows event log on the server throwing the error? Usually there will be a "volsnap" error and it will give you details of what caused the VSS writers to fail.

I have been running into issues with a couple of file servers we use VSS snapshots every couple of hours during the business day so users can self-restore files.
