case number 01715800
Hi, we're having issues doing application aware processing on some of our SQL servers. Veeam support is saying to contact MS, but we do not have unlimited support and I do not want to open a case for every SQL backup failure. The veeam console has these errors
3/3/2016 9:16:43 PM :: Unable to release guest. Error: VSSControl: Failed to freeze guest, wait timeout
even though our timeout is set on the Veeam server for 1 hour. If I run the diskshadow utility and manually do begin backup, create I have no issues and no errors. The backup process completes sucesfully. When Veeam triggers it, howeever, the VSS writers go into failed state for Timeout and the backup fails. The following logs are written to the application event log.
Sqllib error: OLEDB Error encountered calling ICommandText::Execute. hr = 0x80040e14. SQLSTATE: 42000, Native Error: 3013
Error state: 1, Severity: 16

SQLSTATE: 42000, Native Error: 3271

Also, this is a brand new server and a fresh install of sql 2014. There is basically no data on the server, and it is not under any load.

Re: VSS Timeout - SQL Server
Please carefully read KB1377, the error message refers to a timeout that is 60 seconds and cannot be configured.
Check your VMware snapshot creation time.

Re: VSS Timeout - SQL Server
You're dead on, I moved the vm to another host and a less utilized volume and the application aware processing worked flawlessly. Is that saying the snapshot creation time must be 60s or less?
