VSSFreezer Backup job failed
Hi,
I have some problems regarding Veeam VSS-Support.
I made jobs for each of my Windows 2003 R2 SP2 32-Bit VMs, all using VSS. That worked fine for all machines, except my Exchange Server (Warning):
Creating snapshot
VSSFreezer: -2147024894 Backup job failed.
Cannot create a shadow copy of the volumes containing writer's data.
Cannot prepare the [NTDS] data to a subsequent restore operation.
Cannot process NTDS data.
Cannot update the boot.ini file in order to force restored machine to run in the directory restore mode.
Cannot obtain file attributes. File path: [C:\boot.ini].
Win32 error:Le fichier spécifié est introuvable.
Code: 2
I have two ESX 3.5 Hosts.
Veeam is runnning on a physical backup-server (2003 R2 SP2 32-Bit).
I used Veeam Backup 3.1, but now after migration to 4.1.1 (i hoped a change) , I have the same Warning...
Any ideas to get VSS-Support running for my Exchange Server?
Thanks in advance and best regards.

Hello Stephane,
Please search the Windows Event log on your Exchange Server for the errors, this should shed the light on the issue. By the way have you had a chance to look through the article that was sent to your by our support engineer?

Re: VSSFreezer Backup job failed
Thanks,
After launching msconfig, boot.ini tab is not available, and i can't open the file too in System properties.
So, seems to be a Windows problem... but i don't know how to repair it !

I've done some research for you, might help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827180
But I believe it will be best if you could open a support ticket with Mictosoft regarding this issue.

Re: VSSFreezer Backup job failed
Thanks, problem is solved.
File boot.ini was renamed in boot.ini.bak for unbeknownst reasons to me...
Snapshot, rename, reboot, delete snapshot, and it's okay !
Regards.
