VUL Licensing for perpetual Essentials bundles
Assuming v10 version and active maintenance.
can a Essentials Enterprise perpetual sockets customer add VULs to their license to use NAS backup?
I know VULs have the enterprise plus featureset, and when VULs and sockets are both used, the socket edition will determine the featureset. But is this also true for Essentials bundles? I'm hearing this is only true for VBR (so non-essentials bundles) STD/ENT socket editions and Essentials Sockets require migrating to VULs completely or upgrading the sockets to enterprise plus first before adding VULs.
Please help me get this clear. I got too many different stories today, even from Veeam and distributors.

You can backup NAS with Veeam Standard Edition.
I have tested this with Veeam Community Edition (Standard Feature Set)
So the vul downgrade to enterprise will not be a problem.
The only thing i faced so far, you will need at least Enterprise Edition for NAS Archiving Repository functionality.

I'm specifically talking about the essenitals bundles, regardles of edition even. Its unclear if i can have essential VULs AND essentials Sockets in the same console/management. i know it's OK for normal VBR STD/ENT/ENT+, but essentials is different i was told.
@Mildur, The community edition has NAS backup features available, up to 250GB data if i read correctly. CE is a different story.

The Community Edition has 10 free instances/workloads. You can backup 10x 250gb NAS Data with that. Max 2.5 Terrabyte.
I don‘t have an answer about mixing up two essentials licencse types let‘s wait for confirmation by veeam folks

Re: VUL Licensing for perpetual Essentials bundles
regarding CE. If you look at https://www.veeam.com/products-edition-comparison.html , there are some notes when you hover over the NAS feature. It specifically mentions the CE edition and a 250GB limit. It would not make sense to mention such a limit there if you could use your 10 instances/workloads for NAS backup with the CE , because a instance/workload/VUL is always 250GB regardless of edition. So that made me suspect the CE can only backup 250GB nas data total, not 10x250GB. But, that's just my reasoning, i've not had the change to test it.

The pricing for VUL once you want to cover a large(ish) NAS system was .. interesting.Mildur wrote: ↑Mar 03, 2020 8:18 pm You can backup NAS with Veeam Standard Edition.

Just to put some context: here you can see the File Share Backup price comparison chart.
Also, it might be worth reaching your sales representative to check whether there is some discount or special offer available.
Thanks!

Vladimir, can you comment on my initial question perhaps? It’s still a bit unclear for me

Re: VUL Licensing for perpetual Essentials bundles
thanks Gostev. But sorry, i'm more interested in an answer for my question regarding the combination of Essentials VULs and Essentials Sockets. Any insights about that?

Re: VUL Licensing for perpetual Essentials bundles
You can have Essentials Sockets and VUL (VBR or VAS) in the same console.
You can NOT have Essentials Sockets and Essentials VUL in the same console, because Essentials VUL is a workloads quantity-limited offering by its nature, so it cannot be combined with any other offerings.

Re: VUL Licensing for perpetual Essentials bundles
ok good to have that confirmed.
So for those looking at NAS backup features, two options are available for customers with Essentials Sockets : (1)migration to 100% Essentials VULs with a limit of 50 or (2)add VBR/VAS VULs to combine with their Essentials Sockets.
I'll take it as fact of life
