WAN Accelerator - How many upload streams?

Post by Dave-Departed »

If I have 100mbps bandwidth, and the backup copy jobs will be run out of hours, how many upload streams would be recommended, to try and get the most out of our bandwidth please?

Thanks in advance!

As just about everything in IT, "it depends". In this case, depends mostly on the link latency, and sometimes on intermediary network hardware settings. I've seen customers who had to use more than 20 streams to be able to saturate 20 Mbps link, because single upload stream could only do 1 Mbps max for whatever reason (tested with basic FTP upload). And I've seen customers who only needed 2 streams to saturate 1Gb link. Try a single stream, monitor WAN utilization, and multiple that value by the required amount to achieve the desired utilization. I recommend using basic FTP or alike for testing, because WAN Accelerator itself can easily be a bottleneck with 100 Mbps link.
