What can Veeam do
Hello,
I have some questions about VEEAM software capabilities. I would like to know if it can do the:
- exchange backup and restore
- sql backup and restore
- VM backup and restore
- VM replication
- File Replication
- File level backup and restore
First of all I am interested if it can be do those things.
Is it only one software or are there some additional component which should be installed on top of the main software?
Thank you!

Re: What can Veeam do
Alex, everything listed is possible with Veeam B&R. I'd recommend to review the product page for more high-level information and product user guide in case deeper details are required. Thanks.

Re: What can Veeam do
Hi. Thanks for the update. Does VEEAM require vCenter server? Must the VmWare host have license installed? Or Veeam works as an independent product and does not require vCenter server or any license on the VmWare host?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: What can Veeam do
You can point Veeam B&R to VMs either through vCenter or directly through ESXi hosts. vCenter Server is not required, however makes some tasks easier.alexia_net wrote:Does VEEAM require vCenter server?
At least vSphere Essentials license is required. Veeam B&R does not support free ESXi.alexia_net wrote:Must the VmWare host have license installed? Or Veeam works as an independent product and does not require vCenter server or any license on the VmWare host?
I also recommend to review the FAQ section, since most of such questions are already covered there.

Hi,
if you use vCenter to backup, if you move VM from one esxi physical host to another, Veeam will work flawlessly .
Backups via a vCenter are more comfy .

Right, vCenter makes Veeam B&R vMotion-aware (since VM IDs do not change).

Re: What can Veeam do
Veeam can do for you something huge : move a VM from a server to another, even with no common storage.
Make a full backup from source host, prefereddly with powered-off server .
Make a full restore on target host.
With proper proxies, the needed time is way smaller than if you mode files by tourself.
Add a proper "sdelete" to ensure empty sectors are not backup, and you move quicly from from "environnement" to another.

Make a full restore on target host.

Replication allows to do that even faster and with minimal downtime.fcambot wrote:Veeam can do for you something huge : move a VM from a server to another, even with no common storage.

Re: What can Veeam do
I was thinking about one-time copying/moving from one stack to another

Yep, I'm also talking about that. Replication is often used in large migration scenarios.
