What happens when the backup location Fills.

Post by cag »

With V6 what happens when the backup location fills. Does it remove the oldest restore points to make space ?

Pretty sure it fails and you get an error about the backup location doesn't have adequate space.

It works in the same manner Version 5 did, it will fail.

Would be nice if it deletes the oldest restore point. But I guess I will have to do this myself.

Thanks...

Well if the backup chains depend on those files, they cannot be deleted. If they were deleted, your backups would be invalid and pointless.

Then how to you choose what to delete ? or do you set the backup job to retain less restore points and let the job do the cleanup ?

Your second option is always your best bet is to let Veeam clean then up and lower your restore points if you need them cleaned up. Your best bet is typically Reverse Incremental backup mode.

Besides, all our jobs start to send warning messages when there is less than 10% of disk space left. It should give you enough time to react too.
