Just been thinking about this for a bit... In VMware's changed-block-tracking; what's a block?
Is it a VMFS block (which could be 1-8Mb)? Or a guest OS block? Or a variable length structure that could be any one of the above?

No, definitely not VMFS block. I did calculated this a few weeks ago based on VM size and change tracking engine debug output, it was 256KB if I recall correctly.
