When to set "after this job"

Post by yu_ooyama »

Hi,

I would like to check the specifications for the "After this job" setting of the backup schedule.

I created Job B about 5 minutes after Job A was executed and completed.
At this time, I specified Job A in "After this job".
Then Job B was executed immediately after the job creation was completed.

Next, about two hours after Job C was executed and completed, Job D was created.
At this time, I specified Job C in the "After this job" field.
However, after Job D was created, it was not executed.

In other words, it seems that if a job is specified with the "After this job" setting immediately after the job is completed, the job will be executed according to the "After this job" setting.

Is this behavior a specification?
If so, how long should we wait after the job is completed before setting "After this job"?

Kind Regards,
Yuuki Ooyama

Hello Yuuki

This setting will start the job right after the chained job has finished.
If you configure this setting after the previous job already has finished, the new job won't start.
Job D will only start, after you run Job C again and Job C finishes successfully.

Please note, we don't recommend to use job chaining. If all Jobs have the same retention settings and procession settings, you should only use a single job instead of 4 jobs. Job chaining can lead to some unwanted behavior such as jobs not running because the chained job had a failure. Or if you disable the first job of the chain, the second job will never run.
