Which San do you use?
I know this questions is far away from Veeam so if the moderators delete this post its ok.
But, this community have a lot of people with practical knowledge on other stuff than backup so I just want to ask a question for all the hosters out there;
which San do you guys use? I use HP P4300 series but I need to increase my storage capacity in both the fast drives (sas, perhaps ssd..?) and the slower one, sata, for customer who just run easy fileservers.
It would be great to hear which scalable and redundant storage systems you guys use!

Re: Which San do you use?
Hello!
We are using two ibm3524 dual controller storages, fiberchannel, raid 10 on 40x300gb disk, 2 hot spare.
I think about replication on controller level until file system failure on one key vm. I saw this error after weekends %)).
Hardware replication in this case would not help $).
But Veeam replication saved me a lot of headache %)).
If I only have hardware replication in my case the only reasonable action would be to restore from backup %/.
May be near-realtime replication by veem is more suitable for file system errors issues.
But I think that Veeam replication + hardware replication is a must have solution %)
Veeam replication for file system issues.
Hardware replication for hardware failure.

I use NexentaStore software based SAN storage using the following config:
- 1 head based on 2 x Intel E5-2620 CPU with 128GB ram
- 2 x SLOG (write cache) Zeus RAM 8GB
- 3 x L2ARC (read cache) Intel 520 SSD 180GB
- 16 x 2TB SAS 7200RPM drive in Raid 10 (8 x mirrors) on AIC JBOD 16 x 3.5" drives
- All configed as iSCSI target
- 10Gb link with 1Gb failover
This SAN is serving 3 x ESXi hypervisors on 2 x E5-2650 CPUs hosting 1 exchange, 1 3TB file server, 3 DCs, 2 DB servers, 3 app servers, 3 management servers, Veeam Backup and Veeam One servers.

Hi Frank,
Please take a look a this poll, might be interesting > [POLL] What is your PRODUCTION storage for virtualization?
Thanks!

Re: Which San do you use?
Frank,
the StoreVirtual system is indeed a really scalable storage. however, it's not suggested by HP to mix dfferent models into the same cluster. If you need to add a faster area for you storage, have a look at the VSA version of StoreVirtual: since it's software only, you can design the underlying storage as you need, and then have the VSA to run on top of it.
The upcoming version 11 also will be able to do real time tiering, so a storage design with both SSD and HDD will heavily improve the StoreVirtual performances.
Luca.

Note that the referenced poll is almost 2 years old now, so it's probably no longer a good point of reference these days...

Re: Which San do you use?
Totally, for example I would expect many EMC customers would have upgraded their Clariion systems to VNX, just to name an example.
Anton, maybe is time to do a new poll?
