Windows Firewall Entries- 100's of VeeamGuestAgent entries
Hello All,
On my 2k8 Windows Servers I noticed today 100's on entries for VeeamGuestAgent (In) (C:\Windows\VeeamVssSupport\VeeamGuestAgent.exe) and I'm curious why all these entries are there. I understand the need to add an entry but it seems Veeam is not cleaning up well after itself. I'm seeing these entries on servers backup up with Veeam 5 & 6.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Marty

Marty, I guess you are talking about Windows Firewall rules. Indeed, in some cases VBR creates an identical rule instead of checking whether the rule already exists for this process. You can safely delete all but one of them. Thanks.

Yes, Windows Firewall rules. How do I stop VBR from making a new entry every time a job runs?

I think there's no workaround for this currently. The issue is already in our bug tracking system and is likely to be fixed in one of the future updates.

Re: Windows Firewall Entries- 100's of VeeamGuestAgent entri
Dear All
Just noticed this myself today. 100's of WFAS Inbound Rules for "VeeamGuestAgent (In)" on all of the Win2K8 & Win2K8 R2 servers.
The UI makes it very laborious to purge these one at a time so I thought of running the following command in an elevated command prompt:
netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name="VeeamGuestAgent (In)"
However, this will delete all instances of the rule rather than all but one as suggested.
If I do this wont Veeam simply add another rule next time the backup runs?
Regards
MartinC

Martin, have you tried to multiselect (using SHIFT or CTRL) all but one of the rules? It seems to work for me (at least on Win2k8R2).
In any case, you should not delete all of them as this rule is required for the Veeam Agent to work properly and is recreated during the component installation only. So after deleting all of the rules you can either create the one manually (just be careful remembering all the parameters specified in the rule) or readd the corresponding server to the Veeam console - this will reinstall the component and recreate all the necessary rules. Thanks!

Foggy
Multi-select doesn't work on Server 2K8 bit does on 2K8R2.
Thank-you for confirming how to re-add the rule.

Hi
I run the latest version but are still getting more and more Firewall-rules.
Yesterday I manually deleted all except one, and this morning (after tonights backup) there was two rules.
It there anything elso I need to do?

One of our customers experiences this behavor using B&R 6.5 and his 2010 Exchange(Win2k8R2)! So there is still no fix?

This was supposed to be fixed in v6.1. I will check with our QC and report back.

Re: Windows Firewall Entries- 100's of VeeamGuestAgent entri
So the original issue seems to be fixed back in 6.1 - the basic scenario works currently, firewall rules are cleaned up by the agent so no duplicate rules are created anymore. If your customer still experiences similar issue, it probably might be caused by some other reason and it would be best to contact support for deeper investigation. Thanks.
