Hi Team,

With Server 2016 officially out now do we have an ETA on v9.5?

Thanks,

We are still hoping to RTM this month. There were a number of issues with Windows Server 2016 RTM code and we've been working with Microsoft to resolve those. The good news is that most have already been resolved with the latest cumulative update to the RTM code, so we're getting there!

Gostev, how stable will the REFS Integration be in the beginning? Can it be trusted for all data? Are the bugs you are facing right now corrupting data?

Are there any more updates on the RTM release of 9.5?

The GA of 9.5 should happen next month, so the RTM bits are very close.

Hi, I think I answered you this question on Reddit a couple of weeks ago already (well, same nick name at least) ;)

We have not yet seen any bugs that could be attributed to ReFS or BlockClone API, it's been very stable for us. I literally didn't report a single bug to ReFS team at Microsoft over the past years, unlike many bugs I reported to Hyper-V team for example.

Generally speaking, I feel pretty confident about ReFS because it is the recommended file system for Hyper-V 2016 on Storage Spaces, so it should have been very well tested by Microsoft in all the years it took to develop Server 2016.

That said, out of common sense and as always with any new technology, it makes sense to start small and see how it goes. This is what I personally would do.

Hi

We are right now at 9.0 and waiting for U1 before we upgrade to 9.5. After upgrade we plan to upgrade Windows server 2012 R2 to 2016. Is there anything we have to take in consideration before we do an inplace upgrade to Windows server 2016 on the VBR server? (besides backup configuration)

Hi Magnus, the upgrade process is pretty straight-forward. You will need to upgrade your Veeam backup server first, and then its guest OS.

If you would like to make use of these enhancements, be aware to update repository server to Windows Server 2016 as well (if repository role is assigned to machine different than backup server). Thanks.

One thing to keep in mind, after doing an in-place upgrade to Windows 2016, the Netlogon service will likely be set to manual. There are multiple reports of this and I personally saw this in my lab. After the upgrade you'll need to set it back to automatic start to get things working properly.
