Word from Gostev: A weekly mailer I look forward to reading

Post by emilec » 17 people like this post

There doesn't seem to be an off-topic section here, so forgive me for posting in B&R.

I'd just thought a quick thank you is in order here. I recently went on a bit of a clean-up on subscriptions I receive and the Veeam forum digest is by far the most useful mailer in my mailbox on a weekly basis. It's not just about punting the next best thing, but actually has useful technical information that affects my business and customers.

So some kudos where it's due and please keep it up :)

Yep, i agree Gostev's Word is always something to look forward to...
Why? don't really know. Maybe it's the "staying normal" in general, which still counts for Veeam.

So thanks Veeam for being with us! We missed you for a long time even before you existed (Arcs... Backup Ex...)... :)

100% agree. I also appreciate a lot the non Veeam-specific flash news that many times have been an eye-opener for me.

Why am I still subscribed?
* Relevant technical information about anything related to Veeam and therefore our customers
* Being up-front with issues, CBT boundry error is an good example :)
* "Lack" of sales BS

I couldn't agree more. Actually had this same realization about two weeks ago. This is the only newsletter that I have consistently read on a weekly basis. It is short and to the point and most importantly, useful. You keep us informed on many topics that are important to the community that are not necessarily Veeam specific. I know that if there are important updates or bugs in my VMware environment, Gostev is probably going to tell me about it. Keep it up.

I agree so much! A couple of times we didn't get a email and I was all down for a week!

Really good and nice info in those mailings! Keep it up!

Gotta echo all the sentiments here...this is the ONLY vendor update email I stay subscribed to (and like most of you, I have a deluge of these things coming in that I am always blocking and/or unsubscribing from).

Even in a busy week of running infrastructure, writing software, and responding to customers, I always leave Gostev's email "unread" in my Inbox so it stands out...and waiting for my first quick breather to read and enjoy (this week I didn't get to it until midday Tuesday!).

I never skip this one, though I skip all the rest, and enjoy the variety of news ranging from Veeam to VMware to tech in general...things like the recent link to the article about how self-driving trucks will change our future was somehow appropriate and fascinating...I just find that Gostev's instincts mirror mine for what might be interesting in this type of email digest.

Keep up the great work, Gostev! And keep up the great work, Veeam! (and Veeam, please don't lose your roots as I fear will eventually happen...as it always seems to happen with great success. In fact recently I have been concerned that Veeam has finally reached that critical mass that puts it on the precipice of losing its original identity...time will tell...inertia unfortunately doesn't favor the "keep it real" attitude for companies that become this successful)

I guarantee we will not lose our identity, at least until I am here. That's actually one of my big personal goals, and the reason why I am all over almost every Veeam department... many people hate me for this ;) it's painful, but this is the only way to ensure that we maintain our original identity with all those new people joining, and many bringing a different mentality with them.

But, please also understand that it is only with your help that we will be able to maintain our identity. So, I always ask is that you, our customers and partners, let us know immediately when something is not working well, or even simply gets worse than it used to be. Remember, we cannot fix what we don't know is broken! And we are a big company now with way too many things happening every minute, so "external monitoring" is a must.

And these forums are THE place to provide such feedback, because this ensures it can be seen and acted upon vs. potentially being "lost" within a particular department. Most importantly, don't hesitate to post a negative feedback as well, as we don't censor our forums - in fact, you can easily find some extremely negative threads here, including about me personally - so, there is no better proof, really.

We do need your feedback desperately, if you want us to stay the same. We need to hear from you how we are doing overall as a company, in every aspect. So, I'd like to thank you all beforehand for the time you will (hopefully) spend posting such feedback. It helps us immensely!

Gostev is nailing it. +1 for super valuable email every Monday morning.

Veeam are also nailing it. World class product, exceptional support.

I agree with the "keep it real" attitude - it's a critical part of what I consider to be core to Veeam's identity.

It'd be great if there was an archive of these weekly newsletters. I missed the one from last week since I switch emails and I'd love to go back and refer to ones I might have seen but later deleted.
