worst case restore scenario

Post by therealhorst »

Hi,

we are using veeam B&R with an immutability storage.
The configuration of veeam B&R is also copied to this imute storage every day.

If we get the worst case scenario and all of our backups and the veeam server are encrypted, do we only need to install a new veeam B&R server and import the last veeam config backup file from the immute storage to be able to restore the rest of our VMs again?
Or do we need the SQL DB of the B&R, too?

Kind regards

Hi Horst

Welcome to the RnD forums.
The configuration backup can be used to restore the entire configuration of the VBR server. That's the recommended way todo a configuration restore. After the restore, the hardened repo will be reconnected to the new VBR server, and you can start the restore. The SQL DB backup is not required.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

The configuration backup itself is not immutable and can be deleted or encrypted by an attacker.
But even without the configuration backup, you can install a new VBR server, add the hardened repository to this new backup server and start the restores. The configuration backup is not required for restoring your data.

Thanks
