Hi all,
Is it feasible to setup a backup job without weekly full and monthly full but only one yearly synthetic full? If yes, how to setup the backup retention?
The Scenario:
The first one is full + 365 incremental, at the year end create the synthetic full.
Kind Regards,
Leo

Re: Yearly Synthetic Full
I'm honestly not sure *why* you would want to set up your backups this way? If you have an ReFS or XFS based repositories, synthetic full backups cost you near nothing for space. You run the risk of having an incremental somewhere in the chain going corrupt and ruining every subsequent restore point.
You can still keep 365 days of incrementals, but if you throw in synthetic full backups into there periodically, you'll have a much safer backup strategy.
