Yet Another "Why Do I have so many restore points" Question

Post by rdorman »

I really REALLY though I understood this at this point.

I have a job, incremental, synthetic fulls weekly and transform to rollbacks. The policy is set to keep 14 restore points.

If you see the screenshot I clearly have 15 restore points that are covered by 2 fulls in the chain. Why is it keeping the increments and fulls from the previous full chain? I thought as long as I had a full + increment chain that covered my retention requirement, old VM's points would be deleted

Hi Ryan, yes, they should be deleted. I can see that the "tail" is more than a month old, so looks like it is not considered a part of the chain, for some reason. Do you recall any actions you've probably made to this job recently (like backup mode switching or something)? I suggest letting support to take a closer look at your setup.

Case ID 01980282. We're currently trading screenshots and logs, but it would seem I'm not completely crazy. About this.

Well "something" made the backup chain in B&R not delete the old files, never really found out why. I was advised to manually delete them and then "forget" the files in the Disk Backups properties.
