VAO reporting - detail level

Hi,

When defining reports you can specify detail level, but this is globally and in all scopes. Is there a workaround to create reports with different detail level next to each other in the current version?
What I want to achieve:

• A detailed report of an orchestration plan/test to share with the technical department of the customer

• A report with minimal details to share with non-technical employees

If this is not possible today, can this been added as a feature request in the next version?

Hello Stijn,

The implementation we have now is indeed for all reports & scopes globally. This was the simplest to implement for the first version, however I'm glad to hear ideas on how it could be enhanced in future versions.
It sounds like you want to have one plan generate two reports, at different detail levels. Reason being the different audiences for the reports.
There are hidden complexities in achieving this (there always are ) for example, how to treat report email subscriptions and so on.

Anyway if I do understand your request, there is a workaround in current version for the Plan Definition report. You can generate repeatedly for any detail level.
In the VAO web UI -
- Go to Orchestration Plans page
- Right-click your plan and choose "Update Definition Report"
- Go to Reports page
- You will see the new/updated Definition at the top of the table. Check the box and choose Download.

Then
- Go to Administration\Reporting\Report Detail Level and choose your other desired level (e.g. Minimum Details)
- Go back to Orchestration Plans page and "Update Definition Report" again
- Go to Reports page, the Definition report will have been replaced with a newly-generated one at the new detail level setting.

You can now download the updated report, and you have two versions with different detail levels.

However this workaround will only work for the Definition Report, as it can be generated on-demand in this way. Plan Test for example would have to be handled differently...

Let us know any more details of your use-cases for customizable reports, so we can consider them as we discuss the feature.

Sorry for the delay.
Our use case:

We need to be able to provide our customers with 2 reports:

• a report for the IT department - with as much as possible technical details of the VAO readiness check/datalab test runs. For this, the current report is more than ok

• a second report with high level details to share with the non-IT department and to use during audits. This report don't need all those details (license info/mount process/restore process/...). Most important info in this report: job description/RTO and RPO compliancy/which vm's and/or datastore is part of the job/DR readiness/datalab successful or not.

It would be useful when a readiness check/datalab test is scheduled/running that we could generate both reports and mail them (to the different departments)

Hi Stijn,

I'm just checking back in to this thread to tell you that we are implementing a new method of reporting in upcoming Orchestrator v6.
We will remove the current report detail global settings (Minimum, Medium, All) and instead we will generate 2 reports every time.
One report with all details, and a new Summary report (similar to current minimum details).

This should work for both of your audiences - IT & non-IT.
By default we will generate both Detailed and Summary reports every time, however you can change this in server settings and choose one or the other.
