02329523 - Feature Request_ Disk space monitoirng on Storage

Team,

Currently the disk space utilization for storage is configured as Total capacity vs Used space . However we would like to reconfigure this calculation as Provisioned space vs Used space to calculate the Available free space. We have raised a Veeam case 02329523 and the assigned engineer requested to raise a Feature request in this forum. Please do the needful.

There are already Datastore Free Space and Datastore Provisioned Space.

Currently the disk free space is calculated based on (Free space = Total capacity - Used space) but we need that to be calculated as (Free space = Provisioned space - used space). Hope this clears.

I`ve re-uploaded the image.
Your reasoning makes sense, while other people got used to Free Space calculated as Total capacity - Used space.
What if we add counter Used Space so you can work with it as well?

thanks for your update.. i am actually looking at the summary Tab instead of Disk space. but both works same way . don't think that will be helpful because again the used space will be calculated against the Total capacity only if i am not wrong. i want either the used space or free space to be calculated against Provisioned space instead of using Total capacity. Because we have few data stores capacity and Provisioned space is different. we are having issues in the alerting area when it breaches the configured threshold as the alerting is currently using Total capacity to calculate either free space or used space we are not getting the alerts at right time because provisioned space is lower than the actual capacity.

In my perception to calculate free space as Total-Used.
If you provision thick disk of 100GB to VM it takes 100GB of datastore, if you provision thin disk of 1TB, but real usage is 10GB, we will report 10GB as used space.

Could you name the alarms you have troubles with?

its not issue with the alarm . But we have to reconfigure the alarm Data store Free space . Rule type we are using is Free space which is calculated as
Free space = Total capacity - Used Space .
But we have this calculation to be as below..
Free space = Provisioned space - Used Space .
