host failure modeling or how many vm can build analysis
Hi
Currently our vSphere HA setting -> Virtual Machine Options has some VMs disabled (for example those replicas and our DC since we have 1 sitting in each host, other host doesn't need to start up the DC when host failure).
When generating the caption reports it seem to include those disabled VM which makes the report inaccurate. Is there a way to exclude those HA disabled VMs?

Hi Frankie,
The question is interesting. How do you want HA VMs to be treated?
For example in Host Failure Modeling report we count all VMs on the failed hosts as affected and check how other hosts of the cluster will do in a case of the failure.
Do you mean that only those VMs with disabled HA option will be affected and we need to separate VMs based on their HA option?
Currently there is no way to do that in UI.

Ok, have you tried to use Business View groups to filter out these VMs from the report? Just create a BV group with the VMs you want to do analysis for and select this group in the reporting scope.

Ahh right I can try to make a BV for HA enabled only VM and see how goes.

Yes, in BV you can either use static rules to groups VMs or dynamic expressions based on VMs properties. Let us know how it goes.
