Host Monitoring
Hi,
So it appears in Version 9 we stumbled on to a bug which we thought was a feature, that bug / feature has now been "corrected" in 9.5, However we would like it back!
So we had two VCs that had a number of hosts in them, Veeam one provide performance states and alerts for these Hosts. We were not concerned by the VMs or the Date stores so had created exclusions for these to not be monitored.
Upgrade to 9.5 update 1 and even though the exclusions are set the same the behaviour has now changed. We can no longer see the VCs as they show as excluded, meaning we see no performance or alarms for the hosts. We we remove the rules we see the hosts data stores and VMs.
Regards
Iain

Re: Host Monitoring
Hi Ian,
If you're only concerned about hosts/datastore monitoring, you can disable VM performance counters in the support utility which will allow you to monitor hosts only without creating exclusion rules.
Thanks!

Re: Host Monitoring
Ok, my answer still applies to your situation. Disabling all VM counters should do the trick.

Re: Host Monitoring
No, as I said above, if I exclude VMs and Datastores the hosts become excluded. As per the response from your own supportVitaliy S. wrote:Ok, my answer still applies to your situation. Disabling all VM counters should do the trick.
Hence my post here requesting the feature.Hosts monitoring without child VMs and datastores. This undocumented feature was actual for version 9.0 as the result of per-VM and per-Host objects exclusion rules.
It wasn't planned following to the product design and was applicable by chance (kind of bug, actually). We already informed our Product Management about the situation, however you may publish your feedback at Veeam ONE forum: veeam-one-f28/
Many thanks

Re: Host Monitoring
I'm not referring to the rules wizard where you exclude VMs, I'm saying that there is a way to disable the collection of VM performance counters (individually) without creating rules. This does not affect data collection jobs for hosts and disables performance data for all VMs.

Re: Host Monitoring
OK yes I see where you mean, unfortunately I am monitoring another 4 VCentres if I disable it there then I won't get VM and Datastore date for the 4 VCs I do want data for.
Many thanks

Re: Host Monitoring
Hmm, in this case you can exclude all VMs but one (for example, a powered off dummy VM) to continue monitoring your hosts and still keep monitoring other VMs from these vCenter Servers. And thanks for your feedback on this functionality, we will see how we can enhance this functionality in our next updates.

Re: Host Monitoring
Just tried your other method, but to no avail.
Everything still becomes Excluded.

Re: Host Monitoring
What if you power on this dummy VM? Does this work?

Re: Host Monitoring
So the host was still excluded even if you've left 1 powered on VM included in the rule?
