Re: Veeam One Guest Disk Space Usage Report

Vitaliy S. wrote:Currently guest disk space metric collected as a VM property, thus it doesn't have historical data points. In v7 guest disk space will be added to the list of performance metrics, which will allow us to retain all historical information on the guest disk space usage.
Vitaliy, now that v7 is out: Where is this new guest disk space performance metric, could you please point me to it? Because i only see latency, i/o, rate, both read and write. But no vdisk SPACE. Where is it?

Best regards,
Joerg

Hi Joerg, have you checked Raw performance data and Custom performance reports? This metric should be there.

OK, many thanks, found it. You have to select "guest disk" and not "virtual disk". But as i see it you can not see the guest disks separated but only all together. is this adjustable? and would it be possible to generate a graphic?

Here is what i did: Scope set to vmware raw performance data, scope esx host, period week, object vm, monitor guest disk, metrics usage, include *

Best regards,
Joerg

Joerg,

Correct, because this is the guest OS disk information ;)

Check VMware Custom Performance report, as we do have an option to generate graphs there. As to showing guest disks separately, I think it should be possible to add in the next updates.

Thanks!

[MERGED] : Monitor Guest Disk Size(s) Over Time (Trend)

Post by Chip » May 13, 2014 8:50 pm

Hi,

Can someone pretty please tell me how to use VeeamONE to monitor how a guest disk (or disks) for a VMWare VM have grown over time in MB or GB? I don't need IOPS or usage "rates" per se. I just need to figure out say, how big the VM disk was at point A, how big it is now at point B, and how big it will be in say, a month or six months or a year (trend line) at point C. I need to tell my boss the rate at which the guest disks are growing over time so that we can write up a proposal for a new SAN.

I cannot seem to figure out how to do this easily after poking around the forums, although I read that VeeamONE version 7 can do this. Maybe it's just me. : )

Hi, Chip,

Have you already checked the "VMware Custom Performance" report; might be exactly what you're looking for?

Thanks.

Oooh, yeah! That's it! Is there a way to define just particular guest disks?

The answer provided by Vitaliy few posts above is still valid. But we can consider adding this in one of the next product updates/releases. Thanks.

Cool! That would be very helpful to have for large VMs that have multiple guest disks, like file servers and such.

Now Guest Disk Space Usage report (updated in version 9) includes trends as per feedback in this topic.

I believe the new functionality is in the report "Guest Disk Free Space"
