Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
Hi there,
I'm looking for a way to report on the total size of for each backed up VM by filtering on either a particular backup job or on a particular backup repository. I only have access to the reports which target Veeam Backup & Replication as the infrastructure object (I don't wish to add virtual infrastructure as I don't want to consume additional licenses on VMs that I don't backup).
I haven't been able to find a report yet which shows me the total backup size without having to manipulate the data. It seems like the Protected VMs report is what I'm after but as I mentioned above, I don't want to add any virtual infrastructure.
Does such a report exist that meets my requirements?

Hello Gunnersaurus,
Please check the Backup Infrastructure Custom Data report. It works without virtual infrastructure
Something like that could help with the filtering by job.

Similar way you may filter by repository.
Thanks

Re: Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
I have tried that one however it seems to combine all the parent jobs into a single row. In my case, I'm looking to only include data from the backup job and exclude any backup copy data. Is that possible?

Re: Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
Hello Gunnersaurus,
Unfortunately no, because of the data structures.
At the moment, due to certain dependencies, there's a necessity to gather topology data from the virtual infrastructure for the Protected VMs report. Eliminating these dependencies will require some time. I'm unaware if there is a workaround for the task you've described.
You may also check the Workload Protection History report. It has data per the backup session, but there are no total values you are looking for.
Thanks

Re: Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
I've managed to find a way to add the virtual infrastructure without incurring the additional licensing cost by using some exclusion rules based on backups.
Now that I have this in place, is there a report which will return the data I'm looking for?
Thanks

Re: Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
Hello Gunnersaurus,
With added virtual infrastructure you may run the Protected VMs report now. But now I am not sure that you are looking for this data.
Is it correct, that there is a backup job with multiple VMs and you would like to know the total size of 1 particular VM occupied on the repository even though this VM is used on other backup (or copy) jobs? Could you please describe the use case in more detail?
Also please check the Job History report. The output is grouped by job name and also you may open a drill-down data for each VM by clicking on the link in the object processed column. There are Processed (GB), Read (GB) and Transferred (GB) with known Total Backup Size (GB) this info probably could help.
Thanks

Re: Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
Hi RomanK,
Your description of what I'm after is correct.
I checked out the Job History report but it doesn't break out the total backup size per VM.
The format I'd like to have the data in is very similar to the Backup Infrastructure Custom Data report but with the option to have a parameter which lets me select either the backup job or the job type (backup, backup copy etc). The use case here is to get a breakdown of the backup data consumption per server (for backup job only) so that we can provide this report to a customer to give them more visibility on how their overall storage usage is being consumed.
Thanks

Re: Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
Hello Gunnersaurus,
Backups on Repository have this information, it just need some filtering after for VM, or job. It can be done exporting to Excel.
In our future releases, we are planning to have much better filtering options inside the report before you export. Take a look and let us know.
If you need something immediate, I would recommend to explore the VeeamONE API, where all this information is present.
Thank you!

Re: Veeam ONE VM backup consumption report
the backup billing report might also be an option to look at. In my case it gave me exactly what I needed...
