Virtual Machine Inventory

Post by ivordillen »

Is there or can there be a report that gives me (on the moment of data collection)

A list of all vm's with their configuration: display name - location of config file - location of disks (if they are on different datastores/RDM) and (the rest of the data you find on virtual machine configuration report that exists.

kind regards,

Ivor

Hi Ivor,

Yes, there is. Please take navigate to Custom Infrastructure report, choose "Object Type: Virtual Machine" and the specify the required parameters.

Thanks!

OK this is certainly something. Is there a list with attributes and stuff because I'm looking for the 'virtual device node' but I don't find it.

kind regards,

Ivor

There is no such list, all available properties are already displayed in the custom infrastructure report. Thanks!

Are you talking about listing out which drive is attached at 0:0 and 0:1 etc.? I tried looking for that and I am surprised that I couldn't located that either. I actually thought we did so I never really looked for it. I figured a good report would include the NAME, VDN, Location of VMDK, Drive letter in OS. This report would come in handy for Backup users that want to exlude specific drives from a VM but don't know which one on the VM is the E: drive in the VM, or F: drive whatever.

Hear hear.
Indeed I would be pleased with the 0:0 0:1 ... but when a rapport would give the drive letter also in the OS this would be awesome.

Maybe an idea for the wishlist :-)
