Vms Tags Gone...

Post by Stabz »

Hello everyone,

I m facing a problem.

I use veeam One to add some Tags to my Vms.

From Vcenter I added manually some tags to a categorie which has been created by Veeam One.

This tags are used in my veeam backup.

But I don't know why and how, the tags are gone from my Vms, and my backup failed ...

Is that possible that Veeam One deleted the tags created from the vcenter during a synchronization???

Thanks Philippe

Hello Philippe,
Tags should not be deleted during synchronization.
Have you contacted Veeam support? Could you provide your support case number?
Thanks!

This is really strange,

In my vCenter in the tags section, the tags created still present in the good category.

Only the vms have been "updated"...

Yes I just opened it: # 02408135

Have you renamed the tags in vCenter by any chance?
Thanks!

Hello Shestakov,

No, the business view categories have been created for a while.
I created my tags on Vcenter and used them since 2weeks whitout problem.

So i don't know if it's a vmware bug or an "update" of veeam one...

I have also open a support ticket in Vmware.

Veeam ONE does not delete any tags on the vCenter Server, it can only write or read them from the vCenter Server inventory.

Hi Vitaliy and Shestakov,

Sorry for the delay of my answer but I accumulate problems since the beginning of the week...

No I meant Veeam One uptaded my vm tags
Veeam ONE does not delete any tags on the vCenter Server, it can only write or read them from the vCenter Server inventory.
The first support answer was:
When you create a Business View category in Veeam One it creates a tag category on vCenter server and automatically creates and assigns it's own tags on the vCenter automatically.
The tag category automatically created by Business View can only be managed by Business View, so if you create tags manually inside this category on vCenter side, they will be cleared out by Veeam One server as soon as the "Object Properties Collection Task" is executed by Reporter (by default this happens daily at 3:00 AM unless you configured it another way), and this happens by the product design.
Possibly this is the situation which happens in your case.
But it's not my case because I added the tags 2weeks earlier, I have to plan a remote session with the support.

Thanks for the update, Philippe.
Indeed, further investigation with support seems necessary.

Hi all!

A little update, following the investigation with the support.
The result, it s not recommanded to mix tags created in vCenter with categories created by Veeam One.

Furthermore I had opened a case with Vmware too.
I m running my vmware infrastructure on MS SQL Express and I m near the limitation of this database.
I have also some several errors in the database related to transaction logs full.
This could explain the tag disappearance..

My action plan:
ACTION PLAN
-----------
1/ Fix the problem with the database and the transactional logs space needeed.
2/ Migrate the SQL database to a full SQL Engine, beginning of next year we plan to migrate our infrastructure in Vsphere 6.0.

Hi Philippe,
Thanks for keeping us informed.
By the way, we have just released Veeam ONE v9.5 Update 3 with new features and fixed issues, including issues with tags.
