What are the Veeam ONE+VBR log analysis resource requirements

Post by kevin.boddy »

Hi,

Our Veeam ONE is connected to three VBR servers. There are log analysis schedules that kicks off at 7am everyday.
I have noted that whenever these tasks runs, the memory usage of the Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe process on the VBR servers will jump from 500MB to 15GB.
The free disk space on the VBR servers will also drop by about 50GB.

Is this normal expected behavior?
What are the resource requirements on the VBR servers for this log analysis task?

Thanks
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

By default, the VID Log Analsis is set to 07:00 AM local time to get the most recent logs (the last 24, since the previous analysis) and finish their analysis by the beginning of the working hours.
So, Veeam ONE users will see the most recent information about any Veeam B&R situations as soon as possible.

However, in case Veeam ONE monitors multiple Veeam B&R servers, it will download, keep in the temporary folder, and analyze all packs at the same time.
So, the disk space will be consumed for a relatively short time but all VBR log packs.

If applicable you may create per-region scheduling
- Go to Veeam ONE Client > "Veeam Backup & Replication" screen > "Veeam ONE Agents" tab.
- Select the group of Veeam B&R servers (using Shift or Ctrl for multi-select) and select "Log analysis schedule".
- Specify the local time (for the Veeam ONE server) that corresponds to 7:00 AM in the local time of the VBR servers group.
- Set this time into the dialog and save the settings.

Or change the folder location. By default, the location is "C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp\VID\"
You may Attach a new disk drive to the Veeam ONE server machine. The required space is up to ~10 GB * Veeam B&R servers.
Set the following value in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam ONE Monitor\VID\LogAnalyzerTempFolder (REG_SZ | String) = "Drive:\Path\" Notice that it should have the "\" at the end and the total length should be shorter than 45 symbols.
After that restart the Veeam ONE services to apply the changes. The old folder with temporary files could be removed.

Hope this help

Hi,

The disk consumption and extreme memory consumption is happening on the VBR servers not the Veeam ONE server.

Is this normal and expected?

Why would this task cause the VBR server process Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe to consume 30x it's normal memory usage?

Thanks
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

No, no, it is not expected, at least not like that. Do you have the latest versions of VBR and VONE installed? Are you sure that the log analysis is causing the issue? Have you checked an anti-virus anti-malware software? They could analyze the logs that the agent is reading, and processing. Commonly, the load increase is expected on the server, not an agent side.

Please open a support case and provide a case ID in this thread so we can collect all the additional details and investigate it accordingly.

Thanks

Hi,

The Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe process memory usage increases during the second stage of the log analysis where it says "Collecting data logs from the Veeam Backup & Replication".
The moment it moves onto the next stage then the memory usage for Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe drops back down again.

I will open a support case now and post it here.

Thanks
Kevin
