Feature request Hyper-V failover plan exection in Veeam Orchestrator

Post by catalin.andrei »

Hello,

We would like to submit a feature request regarding Veeam Orchestrator.

As our infrastructure is being migrated towards Hyper-V, we rely increasingly on orchestrated disaster recovery workflows. We are also conducting periodic failover and failback exercises to validate our DR readiness.

At the moment, we understand that Veeam Orchestrator does not provide the capability to execute structured failover plans for Hyper-V environments. This limitation creates challenges in automating and standardizing our DR procedures.

Having the ability to define and execute full failover plans (including sequencing, dependencies, and automated testing) for Hyper-V workloads would significantly improve our operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention during DR drills.

This capability would help us:
- Standardize and automate our DR testing procedures
- Reduce the risk of human error during failover exercises
- Ensure consistency between planned tests and real incident scenarios
- Better align with our internal compliance and resiliency requirements

Given our ongoing transition to Hyper-V and the need for regular DR exercises, this feature would be highly valuable for our environment.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,
CEC Bank

Hello, and welcome to the Veeam forums!

We do have the request for Hyper-V replication support in Veeam Orchestrator (VRO) already - and I'm happy to report it is planned (although not yet scheduled for a specific release vehicle)

FYI, we will ship new features for Hyper-V very soon in the upcoming VRO 13.1 release -
- support for standalone Hyper-V hosts in VRO (currently we require a cluster), and also
- support for Hyper-V backups in our VRO Cloud plans, allowing restore of Hyper-V backups to Azure.

Hopefully VRO is currently useful to you in your migration to Hyper-V, as we do support restore of VMware backups to Hyper-V target clusters right now. If you would like some tips on creating a zero-data-loss migration plan with VRO, let us know!

Please ask your Veeam sales rep to add this request for Hyper-V replication support to our Product Request Tracking system - that will ensure we in R&D have all your account details to hand.

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

We are happy to hear the good news.
Therefore, we would like to perform re-IP during failover in the DR environment, mapping virtual machines to a different VLAN. The machines will also be connected to a different nework in the DR site, with a different subnet compared to production. This requirement applies to Windows-based virtual machines running on Hyper-V.

Yes, we would like some tips on creating a zero-data-loss migration plan with VRO.

Thank you,
Best Regards,
