Hyper-V support

Post by irofrank » 2 people like this post

Hi,

Is there a plan to add Hyper-V support to Veeam Availability Orchestrator?

Hi,
We continue to build the roadmap for VAO and there are many possible options we are evaluating, Hyper-V being one of them.
However I can confirm that Hyper-V support is not a feature of our next version 2.0. It may be added in a future version but we cannot confirm any dates yet.
Please post your specific Hyper-V use cases and feature requests here, it will help us here in Veeam R&D to prioritize our research!

Thanks for the feedback Alec.

In terms of feature requests, beyond general support for Hyper-V, I would love to see storage snapshot integration as well. Would be great to orchestrate and report on DR testing where primary and DR backups are created via Veeam's storage snapshot integration.

Looking at NetApp specifically.

Hi Frank,
Indeed, storage integration is another feature we are considering for future VAO releases. Again I can't confirm specific dates or versions yet, however thank you for the feedback!

Hi Alec,
Is there a roadmap to include this feature?

Hi, As always I cannot comment on long-term roadmap, but I can say that we are not currently working on Hyper-V support in the upcoming releases.

Hi, assuming we are still talking about Hyper-V support in Veeam Orchestrator, then the status has not changed. We are not currently planning such support. However all feedback is noted, thanks!

h3ctic, like any other feature it gets its priority based on the complexity of implementation, demand from customers, and other features pending in the queue. Right now, Hyper-V support is a bit lower in the queue compared to other features. Hope it helps!

Anthony, as far as I know there are no short-term plans for that.

+1 for this request.

I have worked with several customers interested in VRO that are using Hyper-V.

We have also seen an increase in Hyper-V customers requesting automated recovery features that VRO provides for VMware vSphere.

Now that we've entered the new year and we've seen what Broadcom is doing with the VMware portfolio and partner channel, has anything changed with the roadmap for supporting other virtualization solutions (Hyper-V, AHV, etc.) with VRO?

With the Broadcom-VMware debacle, this should get an increase in priority as VMware clients look at their long term options.

Just to update this thread - direct support for Hyper-V hypervisor is not planned for VRO. Unfortunately this is a low priority considering all the other recovery platforms & features we want to support...
However the method of running Veeam Agent inside Hyper-V VMs, and then recovering those agent backups to either Azure or vSphere using VRO Restore Plans is fully supported.

Hi Guys

Some thoughts, the orchestrator functionality should support the big players, not just VMware.
What other hypervisors are supported, we only see VMWare and recovery to Azure.

One of the short sighted things you can do is to only develop features based on a post on an R&D blog, Microsoft does this and never implements stuff, you should be pushing and innovating on your own. We didn't use Veeam before because we could only backup VM's, since you changed that we jumped onboard.
I have been a customer for over a year now and this is the first i have seen of this blog.

So please, take one of the biggest players seriously and expand your value offering to include Hyper-V.

It's been 6 months since the last update, should I cancel my orchestrator licenses as I'm not able to use them?
Is this on a roadmap as yet?

Regards
Nick

Hello all,
Well this has certainly been a long-running thread!
Here at Veeam we are very aware of the current environment in the market, and we've always supported our customers in 'data freedom' - meaning the ability to use different hypervisors, storage, whatever meets your needs.
So what I can say now is that the Orchestrator team are looking at how Hyper-V could be added. This is a huge task so I cannot promise any specific release dates, versions, or anything like that.
However orchestrated recovery to Hyper-V is now looking much more likely!
Please post your recovery scenarios here (or tell your Veeam SE who will add them to our feature request tracker), and watch this space!
