Mixed roles
Afternoon,
Just wondering if there would be any reason i couldn't have Veeam One and VAO on the same server? Obviously for testing purposes initially so we can have a "play" with VAO.
Thanks

Re: Mixed roles
It is not supported to have any other Veeam products installed on the VAO server, prior to installing VAO.

Re: Mixed roles
Just to elaborate a bit more on the answer from Rasmus. The only reason why it is not supported is that Veeam ONE plays the essential part in VAO deployment (comes with the default installation). Installing two Veeam ONE servers on the same computer is not supported regardless of VAO architecture. The same fact stands true for the embedded Veeam B&R component.

Re: Mixed roles
Quick question,
in this scenario
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vao/d ... tml?ver=10
can the embedded B&R run backups as well to a local repository ?

Yes, this is supported, however, you would need to load a Veeam Backup & Replication license into the embedded Backup Server to support enough sockets you want to protect. This is how we handle for example protection of replicas after a failover using VAO template jobs.jayscarff wrote:Quick question, in this scenario https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vao/d ... tml?ver=10 can the embedded B&R run backups as well to a local repository ?

Can this be tenanted? So many clients to 1 (OR 2) service provider?haslund wrote: Yes, this is supported, however, you would need to load a Veeam Backup & Replication license into the embedded Backup Server to support enough sockets you want to protect. Re: Mixed roles
Hi Jason,
VAO is not designed for multi-tenant use, it is an on-premises enterprise solution; however VAO is multi-site and this is a similar model, there is isolation between sites controlled by user roles.
The site-to-site connection requires active directory authentication (either all servers in the same domain, or domain trusts in place)
And as Rasmus said, you can use the embedded VBR server to run backup or replication jobs (if you license it, additional to VAO) - it is a fully-functional VBR server.
So whether you can use VAO as a multi-tenant solution as a service provider, depends on exactly the way that 'tenants' need to connect. Can you give more details of the configuration you are trying to achieve?

Re: Mixed roles
Thanks for the reply,
Our situation is that we have many smb clients, who generally might not have more than 10 servers. But this would be great to offer (as we are in the caribbean, hurricane ally) as a rental into our Cloud directly or a third party. We certainly would have to be creative with getting clients to connect. I think the sticking point is the carving up the DR infrastructure. This is ideal for our clients who have their own infrastructure in 2 locations. I guess if VAO could plug into a cloud connect then we'd be smiling, is that possible?
Thanks again for your time,

Re: Mixed roles
Hi Jason,
VAO 1.0 does not integrate with Veeam Cloud Connect, however you can connect different tenants as separate sites into the VAO DR server in your site (by putting a VAO Production server at each tenant site). That would achieve a level of isolation between tenants.
And the allocation of DR resources is done at the replication job level. You could pull replicas from your tenants into your DR infrastructure using a Backup server on your site, managed by you.
However you do still need connectivity with AD authentication between tenant sites and your infrastructure - I think VPN would be required.
A lot depends on what aspects of the service you will manage, versus what your tenants will manage. For example, who will create and manage replication jobs in Backup? Who will create, test and ultimately execute Failover Plans in VAO? These questions will inform what options are available in a VAO deployment.

Thanks Alec,
I'll be saving my questions for the VeeamON training now Many thanks for your replies, i'll be trying to test some of this out before the course.
