VAO v2 tested with VMware on Azure?

Post by adelino »

Azure recently released the "Azure VMware Solution by CloudSimple" which looks very similar to VMware Cloud on AWS in that it provides vSphere, NSX-T, and vSAN (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/servi ... oudsimple/). It is also VMware Cloud verified and fully validated and supported by VMware.

From the VeeamOn 2019 conference I believe VMware on IBM Cloud and VMware on AWS are both supported, but curious if VAO v2 has been tested against VMware on Azure? If not, is there a early adopter or testing program to request to be a part of to help vet the solution?

Hi Al,

As this is a new announcement, this hasn't been tested yet. Keep in mind with the support for IBM Cloud and AWS, we mean you can leverage VBR for it. I don't think anyone has tried VAO on those yet.

Actually, we have tested VAO with both vSphere on AWS, and VMware on IBM Cloud.

In vSphere on AWS, VAO can failover, failback, in general all recovery functionality works. However we cannot perform plan testing (because the permissions model does not allow us to reconfigure the networking)

In VMware on IBM Cloud, VAO has 100% functionality, including DataLab testing.

We will confirm status & support for VMware on Azure soon!

All,

Has there been any progress or testing done with VAO on cloud simple? Whether current or next release.

I have a customer with a small VAO deployment now looking at moving DR to Azure. Has there been progress on testing VAO to Azure on Cloud Simple? Thank you.

As per the KB, Veeam Backup & Replication works (with the stated limitations). However we have not performed full testing of DR scenarios with Veeam Orchestrator yet. I'm reluctant to claim support while it's not fully tested. Hope to schedule this work soon and confirm compatibility.

Has Veeam DR Orchestrator been tested with Vmware on Azure? Can you deploy a VAO instance in Azure?

Our QA team have done some testing of VMware-on-Cloud environments - I will check the exact status. However in general there seem to be no major issues. Certainly you can deploy an Orchestrator instance in Azure, just as you can Veeam B&R.
