Azure IaaS VM Licensing

Post by ericyew » May 30, 2018 1:52 am

Have any thoughts been put into getting Azure IaaS VM backup using Windows Agent pricing in line with Azure Backup pricing. It's obvious that the pricing currently is set up for physical server backup and does not factor in being deployed to backup Azure VMs with Veeam instead of Azure backup.

Could you elaborate on your idea a bit? Make price for Veeam Agents deployed on public cloud cheaper than a price for those deployed locally? Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. The pricing make sense for physical workload as most customer will be heavily virtualised and uses proc license to backup workload in a private cloud, with a few Veeam agents for lingering physical workloads.
In a public cloud:
The cost to backup an IaaS VM in Azure with Veeam Agent is USD$133.88.
The cost to backup an IaaS VM in Azure with Azure backup is:
Instance < or = 50 GB:$5
Instance is > 50 but < or = 500 GB:$10
Instance > 500 GB:$10 for each 500 GB increment

It's a bit hard for a customer to justify using Veeam agent to backuo azure workload when it's so much chepaer to backup with Azure backup.

Sorry, I got the pricing slightly mixed up. Pricing is per month, so per year it's still $60 vs $133.88 or $100 vs $133.88.
But for customer with Microsoft OMS suite, it's essential covered in the suite.

Before doing so, we will need to figure out the way to distinguish "local" from "cloud" agents to make price for latter cheaper. Something to think about.

Thank you for the feedback; appreciated.
