Azure VM agentless backup

Post by carlp » Jan 31, 2018 10:40 am

Hi

Is there a Veeam solution for agentless backup of Azure VMs. Either to Azure or to on prem?

Thanks

Hi Carl,

Currently the suggested method to back up Azure VMs is Veeam Agents.

Thanks!

Thanks. Is there a plan to release an agentless backup solution?

Cannot comment on the road map, but we evaluate different ideas for our updates and based on the priority and feedback, these features get into the release.

I agree this would be an amazing feature. Currently you have the option of agent based backup or Azure Backup. If Veeam could get the Azure API's to take snapshots of the actual Hyper-V VM i would think that would be huge from a performance and dedupe standpoint.

While on the topic, one thing i see happening more and more is companies moving to PaaS for things like SQL. It is becoming very cost effective and i get the feeling its just going to get more common. To my knowledge (and i could be wrong here) Veeam cannot back up non VM based Azure SQL instances. So you are basically stuck with using Azure backup, which, while it works well, it does you no good in the off chance that the Azure platform as a whole tanks. With that are there any plans to add that functionality in?

Backing up the SQL instance would need a backup from the source. This isn't unthinkable, but due security/etc improbable. Restoring would be the real challenge.
Option 2 is for Veeam to create a 'legacy type' backup mechanism... erm....nah thanks

With the acquisition of N2WS anything is possible in regards of Azure backup.
I'm soon to check what they can do on Amazon.

Isn't N2WS an AWS backup product? Do they have agentless for Azure?

Hi Eric,

N2WS is indeed a backup solution for AWS. What Bart means is that by bringing N2WS into the Veeam family, it would not be surprising if we extend their offering over other cloud platforms :-). But today there is no agentless for Azure and I cannot tell what the future brings
