Direct Restore from Cloud to Azure

Post by PandaWilliams » Mar 01, 2017 1:20 pm

I would like to be able to restore from cloud direct to azure; but the option is greyed out and support says:-
Restore from the cloud backup to Azure currently is not possible. You can make a feature request on our forum.
Happy with the idea of a local backup; but a restore from the cloud took 5 hours... so to speed it up i would like to go from cloud (VCSP in azure myself) to azure; does anyone else have this requirement?

many thanks

John

Spin up a Windows VM in Azure, install a backup console on it, import a backup to it, and restore a backup to Azure.

hi, sorry to bring this old thread up again but it is relevant for me.
I'm trying to do the same, restore from a cloud provider to azure, but it's greyed out when selecting the cloud backup from the VBR console.
is this something that will be possible in the future? say v10?
when you say "import a backup to it", i seem to first have to export it?
this seems like a process with too many steps.

We have this feature in post-v10 request bucket, but no ETA at the moment.

Basically, you need a spare backup server running in Azure (the one hosting Cloud Connect wouldn't work). You can import a backup file to it and then execute restore to Azure.

We understand that it's multiple step process that can be optimized for sure; so, thank you for the feature request. Appreciated.

Ok good to know it’s in the works.
Yeah i did the workarround you mentioned today, but its not practical for anything big. Importing the backup file requires downloading it first.

We’ll wait for improvements :)
