Restore to Azure

Post by krisso » Jul 28, 2017 3:57 am

Hi,

I am trying to restore a backed up VM to Azure using the Restore to Azure option within Veeam.

I get to the point of validating the Azure Subscription and then get presented with the following error when the location option is being enumerated.

Error:

Code: Select all

Failed to process requests: (Forbidden) The client 'GUID' with object id 'GUID' does not have authorization to perform action 'Microsoft.Resources/subscriptions/locations/read' over scope 'subscriptions/SubscriptionGIUD'. The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.
Any assistance you can muster on this would be greatly appreciated.

Kris.

hi v.Eremin
Krisso is one of my colleagues.

We identified that this issue only occurred in Azure Tenants with CSP subscriptions.
Are AzureCSP tenants not supported ?

Do you mind opening a ticket and providing us with the debug logs? We'd like to take a closer look at how our solution interacts with such subscriptions, and where the cause of failure might be present. Thanks.

I have run into the same issue. Has anyone found a solution yet? I am using a CSP subscription as well.

We cannot solve the issue, unless someone opens a ticket with our support team and provide debug logs needed to investigate the problem thoroughly.

May I ask you to reach our support team and share the ticket number with us?

Thanks.

I've tested this too - I get that error on my own Azure account, but not with my admin account that has full permissions to Azure. My account is a contributor account.

We need to dig deeper into this issue to find what in particular is missing in our code to make it work with such subscription. Kindly, keep the case open, I will ask QA team to take a look at it. Thanks.

Seems I was too hasty - I had applied the Service administrator role to my Contributor account in Azure yesterday and waited for permissions to propagate - testing today yields the same error.

Just finished with support - it looks like only a Full Azure admin account can restore to Azure CSP - any limited admin /contributor does not have the necessary abilities within azure for Veeam to hook into.

It turned out that currently you cannot use CSP MS Azure subscription with contributor role. We will investigate it further internally and make the decision, based on the results of the investigation.

Thank you for working with us on this issue; highly appreciated.

I'm told from support, that it should be addressed in an upcoming version, I would guess 10 or later.

"I spoke with our RnD and QA team and what we've concluded: In future releases there will be an improvement - Veeam will be able to detect and process such scenarios. "

Correct, that's tracked internally as a requirement for one of the future product releases. Thanks.

Most SMB purchased their Azure subscription from a Azure CSP partner. In my case, Veeam Partner, and Azure CSP vendor, it is a major roadblock.

Hello,

Any development on this? We are currently blocked as well, even if using Owner role (with or without co-administrator role).

Current version: Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5.0.1922

Thanks,

M.

Our tests with Subscription Owner role granted went smoothly. So, may I ask you to open a case and provide its number here? We'd like to investigate the issue experienced further. Thanks.

Our CSP provider has just elevated the tenant admin to a subscription owner, but the same fault still remains. Are there other changes I should make within Azure?

Anyone who is still following this, Veeam have identified to me this is a known limitation for Azure CSP users.

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95

I have also been informed there is currently no information on when a solution will be implemented.

We haven't been able to confirm this issue internally on the latest product builds - with subscription owner role granted everything worked as expected. Thus, we need a support ticket ID to investigate the problem further. Thanks.

I've seen some childish piles of rubbish in my time but the literal hundreds of gotchas with Veeam continues to make us look like incompent idiots to our customers.

You sell them something that should work. Why wouldn't it just because you sell them the license as CSP? Please remind me why I'm pushing shit up hill to get us off ShadowProtect????

[MERGED] Restore to Azure

Post by Yuya » Nov 12, 2018 4:44 am

Hello,

I would like to ask about the ability to restore VMware VM or Hyper-V VM as Azure VM.
In the administration guide, it says that Veeam does not support Azure CSP subscription.
In the case of Azure CSP subscription, what is the reason why Veeam cannot restore VM to Azure?

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95
====================
Veeam Backup & Replication does not support Azure CSP Subscriptions. For more information, see https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/offers/ms-azr-0145p/.
====================

Thanks,
Yuya

The reason is that we did not have it, and so could not test against one. We've got just now finally, and will be trying to add support for it in U4.
