Unsupported storage version

Post by wilmthys » Feb 22, 2017 12:49 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to restore a VM in Azure by uploading a .vbk file on to a Veeam Direct Restore Azure appliance since I don't have access to my Veeam subscription from within VBR (long story...).
So I'v uploaded this 80GB .vbk file and when I run the restore wizard, I get an error when selecting the .vbk file:
Dir failed, storageFileName 'U:\<name_of_the_backup>.vbk'
Unsupported storage version: [9].
Does anyone knows what this means?

What product version did create that .vbk file? Thanks.

Wilm,

If that is a Azure error, it means that there is a versioning conflict between the storage where you want to restore and what we expect (but it should not be at all, unless that storage is already existing for years)

Is that newly created azure storage?

I have created the .vbk file with Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 SP1.
The Azure storage is recently created and is attached as a VHD to the Direct Restore Azure Appliance as the letter U:\

Wilm,

In that case, can I ask you to create a support call so that it can be investigated by our engineers? Please post the case ID here and the follow-up/ result after that

Thanks
Mike

I have created the .vbk file with Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 SP1.
Current DR2MA available in Azure Marketplace runs pre-9.5 build. That's why you've got a "Unsupported storage version" error - backup file was created by newer product version.

You can spin up Windows-based Azure VM, install VB&R 9.5 Update 1 (even free edition will be enough) and restore a corresponding backup.

Hello did you then solve this problem?
I have this error with my old backup.
I use 9.0 version VB&R

Consider updating to the latest product version which has Direct Restore to MS Azure feature incorporated. Thanks!

I update but its not resolved my problem, i think my vbk is crashed because i can extract him or open in any VBK.

The issue is caused by you trying to open a backup file created by newer product version on backup console running previous product build.

If that is not the case, reach our support team for further investigation.

Thanks!
