VBR - Unable to add Azure Account - Powershell Error

Post by roy2019 » Mar 20, 2018 2:23 pm

Hello,

I tried to use Azure Restore but I'm unable to add Azure Account.

The error is : Cannot bind parameter 'Password'. Cannot convert the "ID-here" value of type "System.Guid" to type "System.Security.SecureString".

It seeams to be related to : https://github.com/Azure/azure-powershell/issues/4971

It's a known issue with PowerShell 5.0. The support is scheduled for Update 4. Thanks.

This is totally unacceptable. :evil:

I have been breaking my head for the past 3 hours how to connect Veeam to an Azure account, and I have encountered so many errors along the way that I wonder why Veeam even considers this a supported scenario. I'm on a Server 2012 R2 box with WMF 4.0 and cannot get Azure Powershell working without WMF 5.1, and once I install WMF5.1 Veeam won't connect anyway!!!

In PowerShell 5.0 several parameters of cmdlets we had been using got converted from String to SecureString. Thus, the "unable to execute PS command" error.

However, I'm not sure what was wrong with WMF 4.0 which goes with PowerShell 4.0.

Thanks.

Hello all,

Wondering if a workaround has been found or a timeline of when Veeam plans to get this working.

I can start clean with an older OS but I would rather not deploy unnecessary VM's

Did anyone ever get a workaround for this. I've been trying to use the Classic options but having some issues.

What version of PowerShell are you using? 5.0 by any chance? Thanks!

Try this.

Set a password in the password variable as below and specify it as an argument of New-AzureRmADApplication.

Code: Select all

# Check if AAD app with $aadAppName was already created
$SvcPrincipals = (Get-AzureRmADServicePrincipal -SearchString $aadAppName);
if(-not $SvcPrincipals)
{
    # Create a new AD application if not created before
    $identifierUri = [string]::Format("http://localhost:8080/{0}",[Guid]::NewGuid().ToString("N"));
    $defaultHomePage = 'http://contoso.com';
    $now = [System.DateTime]::Now;
    $oneYearFromNow = $now.AddYears(1);
    $aadClientSecret = [Guid]::NewGuid();
    $password = ConvertTo-SecureString "hogehoge" -asplaintext -force

    Write-Host "Creating new AAD application ($aadAppName)";
    $ADApp = New-AzureRmADApplication -DisplayName $aadAppName -HomePage $defaultHomePage -IdentifierUris $identifierUri  -StartDate $now -EndDate $oneYearFromNow -Password $password;
