Veeam Backup to Azure

Post by hakimbhungra » Jul 30, 2017 5:13 pm

Dear Support,

We are facing issue while taking backup to Azure as merging restore point will take almost 3 to 4 days to complete.

We have configured backup copy job to azure with 3 restore point (forever incremental) but merging of restore point will delay the backup.

We have opened the case with Veeam also and as per them this is related to IOPS on azure disk and they cannot do anything regarding this.

I have checked the number of IOPS and it is near about 1000. Please advise how to resolve this issue as customer is really frustrated due to this issue.

Regards,
Hakim. B

Hello Hakim,

thanks for this entry. Hope we can help you here. First, please let me add, that this forum is not a support forum and our support team do not monitor this forum on a day by day base. Sometime you will see support team members post here, but that is based on their free time. This is a true community platform operated by Veeam Product Management.

We can double check what the support team had told you. Can you please post the support ticket number here.

Can you as well please post a little bit about the infrastructure?
Did you had add a CIFS share to Veeam and run Gateway Server in "Automatic" mode or did you had selected the Backup & Replication Server itself as Gateway? A common mistake is to configure Veeam that way, that Merge processes are processed by a Server on the first site instead of the Backup copy job target.

Dear Andreas,

Thanks for respond.

Please find the below ticket number for the same.
Case # 02260434

Yes we created file share and mount on Veeam server on Cloud. We had selected backup & replication server itself as Gateway server.

Thats the issue. When you select B&R as GW Server that means the B&R Server (which I guess is not in the cloud) process the syntetic by down and uploading the bytes. As you had described this will take forever.

You need to select a server in the cloud as Gateway Server.

Question, where is the CIFS share located within Azure? Is it on a Server or on a Serivce provided by Azure ?

Here is an example video... maybe helpful... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OgyQcra9f4

Then you need a server at Azure (or any other place that can access the share more faster thatn your WAN connection) to run the GW role because Veeam do all the transformation by it.

With v10 there is a new feature that just copy data to the cloud and do not do transforms there => Archive Tier.
