veeampn: need hyper machine, not vmware ova

Post by asdffdsa6131 » Oct 25, 2018 12:25 am

hello,
i am so confused, as as paying commercial customer that uses hyperv and given that veeampn runs in an azure hyperv vm, where oh where is the hyperv image for veeampn that I can download.
i need to be able to run veeanpn in a hyperv vm on my hyper server in my local office.

but i cannot do that since veeam does not offer a hyperv image, just vmware.

can somebody please explain the logic of that to me, that veeampn runs just fine as a hyperv machine in azure but I cannot download it???

sorry to vent my total frustration.

can someone help me find a veeampn hyper vm that I can run in my office server alongside my other hyperv machines?

thanks much,
david

Hey there David...replied to this in you other forum post post300607.html#p300607

Hope this helps, it's not that much more work to deploy VeeamPN from the Linux Repo.

thanks much for the reply.
but if veeam can offer veeampn via azure hyperc machine, they should not be so lazy and offer it for download.
thanks again

I’m sorry you feel this is a case of us being lazy however we have taken this feedback on board.

The Azure Marketplace deployment is actually a little more involved than just deploying a template. The fact it runs on an Azure instance doesn’t translate to it being available as a Hyper-V template.

thanks much,
you are correct, it is lazy and very frustrating
no need to reply to this email, just reading it is enought.

I have been a microsoftie for over 40 years, back to tandy/radio.shack days and my trs80.
I know nothing about liunx and do not want to know anything about it.
I have a bunch of microsoft servers and microsoft desktops.
I use microsoft hyperv.
I use microsoft azure.
i need an end-to-end microsoft solution to local pyhsical server to cloud virtual servers.
there is just no reason why you cannot create a simple linux distro version of veeanpn that will boot in hyperv. it is done all the time.

veeanpn is a critical part of the end-to-end solution and veeam treats it like a second class object.
i have noticed that when veeam offers free products without a commerial counterpart, veeam does not seem to care much or keep it up to date.

again, thanks much for the repies and good luck to you.
thanks,
david

okay, i tried a bunch of v2v convertors, to try to convert the ova into a vdmk but always ran into problems.
i decided to run vmware esxi, free hypervisor and installed the ova. the first two computers I used, esxi server would not instal, network cards no supported.
i was able to install the vmware esxi onto an old laptop and then add the ova. that worked just fine.
but still not I could not convert the hyperv vmdk.

so i took your advice, install ubuntu 16.04 in a hyperv machine and that was easy.
then I followed your website
https://anthonyspiteri.net/quick-look-i ... inux-repo/

very easy for a microsoftie, tho i do use openwrt, and now I have a hyperv version of veeampn.

i do have a few suggestions.
add the following line to the start of the instructions.
sudo -i

and the following comment.
I still do not understand why veeam cannot offer a pre-built hyperv veeanpn???
and why does veeapn use an old version of ubuntu???

really, someone at veeam needs to wake up and get this done once and for all.
