Wireguard for client to site?

Post by zer0sum » Feb 10, 2020 5:23 pm

I might of missed it somewhere, but it looks like OpenVPN is the product/protocol used for the client to site connections.
And wireguard is just used for the site to site tunnels.

Is there a way to use wireguard for the client to site tunnels instead?
Or are there plans to create that functionality in the roadmap?

Thank you :D

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

It does not only look like that - it's also documented ;-)

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/veeam ... tml?ver=21 -> search for openvpn in the helpcenter shows 8 results

It's to early to share future plans... but what benefit would wireguard bring in your situation over openvpn?

Best regards,
Hannes

Hi Hannes,

I would MUCH prefer wireguard as the client to site protocol.
Nothing against OpenVPN, but wireguard is what I want to standardize to on all of my remote clients.
Or perhaps Nebula in some cases, but that's a different story :)

I know I could probably get it working from the CLI, but it sure would be nice if you could configure it through the gui and output the wireguard config files.
Unraid does a nice job of this, giving you the code, a zip download, and even a QR code for mobile devices :)
