Veeam Data Vault vs Veeam cloud connect as DR site?
Hi Friends,
Can someone provide some insight on this new Veeam Data Vault?
I am currently running off side replication to a Veeam cloud connect partner locally with off site backup copy and vm replication and this cloud connection site serves as a DR side which can power up VMs and user connecting to it via VPN if the primary site is down.
Met up with a vendor today and was told that I can save alot of cost using the Veeam Data Vault instead of Veeam cloud connect for DR purposes. Assuming if the primary site goes down, the backup located in Veeam Data Vault can be recovered as VM in Azure and then users connecting into Azure using VPN if primary site is down or configure a site to site VPN to my office if the primary site is around but all the server goes down.
Can I also ask if Veeam cloud connect supports Nutanix AHV or Veeam Data Vault supports that? I am running on Nutanix storage and VMware as hypervisors currently. Thanks

Re: Veeam Data Vault vs Veeam cloud connect as DR site?
I wouldn't say that Veeam Data Cloud Vault is a replacement for the Disaster Recovery services provided by Cloud Connect Replication. Depending on its edition, Veeam Data Cloud Vault is an ideal primary or secondary target for backup data, but nothing more.
To restore a machine from backups stored in Vault to Azure, you will need an Azure subscription, an Azure Virtual Machine to be used as a restore proxy appliance, and a deployed and configured Azure VPN. All this will require additional resources and expertise, not to mention that restoring a machine will be significantly slower than executing a failover.
Regarding AHV backup, you currently can't write them directly to Cloud Connect repositories, but you can do it through a backup copy.
Thanks.

Re: Veeam Data Vault vs Veeam cloud connect as DR site?
Thanks Boss,
So Data Vault is good to keep Veeam backups off site for long term storage because of lower cost than Veeam cloud connect?
So Azure subscriptions are costly to keep just on standby? Plus I need to build a proxy machine in azure just for standby purposes? I am not sure how fast it is to restore a 2 TB VM?
So for Veeam Cloud Connect DR as a service. I cannot replicate AHV VMs to cloud connect sites as VMs and do failover just like VMware?

Re: Veeam Data Vault vs Veeam cloud connect as DR site?
Depending on the edition, Vault can be used as a primary backup target for the hot backups or as a secondary target to ensure long-term retention. However, unlike Cloud Connect, it currently does not offer any additional services that service providers often provide alongside storage—such as managed restores, backup verifications, etc.
As for AHV, you're correct; at the moment, you cannot replicate such machines to Cloud Connect.
Thanks!

Hi,
And Veeam Data Vault vs S3 Objects storage ? I don't see differences
Can you tell me what is the advantage of Veeam Data Vault, vs S3 offloading ? for example vs Wasabi S3

I don't think there is much difference between object storage options in terms of data storage. You can compare the storage prices, transaction fees, and costs for incoming and outgoing traffic yourself, and make a decision based on your preferences and expectations.
Thanks!
Thanks!
