Feature Request - Separation of different Volumes on VSA

Hello,

I have already opened a ticket on this subject (#07944531).
Since I have not received a response, I am taking the liberty of writing here. We purchased last year a dedicated server for Veeam, Dell PowerEdge R760xd2.
We chose this server with 3 types of drives inside:
- NVME drives for the OS
- HDD drives: backup
- SSD drives: Sure Backup

During the installation, everything went well, but we are encountering a blockage. The NVME part for the OS is being used properly; however, the HDD and SSD drives are seen as a single array. This is a problem because we cannot put the server into production. Support told me that when the functionality becomes available, it will be necessary to go through a complete reinstallation of the server. Do you have any new information regarding this point?

Hi Alexandre,

We plan to provide more control over how additional disks can be used in one of our upcoming releases this year.

Most likely, you won’t be able to reconfigure the current disk/filesystem layout without destroying the data on it.
If you want to separate an existing backup volume from other disks, you will likely need to move the backups to temporary storage, reconfigure the disks, and then move the backups back.
We can confirm the available migration options after we have released this feature.

Hi Alex,

No, unfortunately we don’t have a specific month yet, but it’s currently planned for our summer release.
We have our Veeam Move feature to move backups to different repositories fast clone-aware.

Hello everyone,

I'm reopening this topic that was previously discussed regarding storage separation within the Veeam Software Appliance.

My use case is the following:

500 GB NVMe dedicated to the operating system
160 TB HDD dedicated to immutable backup storage
20 TB SSD dedicated to SureBackup operations

With previous versions, the appliance automatically grouped the data disks together, preventing me from keeping the HDD and SSD storage separated for their intended purposes.

I noticed that Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1 introduces the new Drive Expansion capability and mentions the possibility to add drives and create new repositories.

My question is therefore simple:

Does Veeam Software Appliance 13.1 finally allow us to keep these disks separated and use them as independent storage areas (for example one repository on the HDD volume and a dedicated SSD volume for SureBackup)?

Or does the appliance still automatically combine all data disks into a single storage pool as it did previously?

For reference, even after a complete reinstallation of the appliance, my 160 TB HDD and 20 TB SSD storage are still grouped together, which makes it impossible to dedicate the SSD storage exclusively to SureBackup.
